North Lake County Public Library

The North Lake County Public Library, located in downtown Polson, Montana, is in a structure that was originally built to contain the library and an independent art gallery. The art gallery moved, and the library is taking advantage of the opportunity to reorganize its collections and work areas as it incorporates the art gallery space. Project goals include creating an accessible entrance, creating more public reading areas, and developing better spaces for library staff.
Current plans include relocating the entry to create a protected entrance to a new entry hall that provides after-hours access to the meeting room and toilet rooms. Moving the entry also creates a continuous room for the library collections and public reading areas. Plans also include rebuilding the west atrium space into an adult reading room with views to Flathead Lake and the surrounding mountains. The project is currently in a funding phase.
