Mukai House & Gardens

Located just west of Vashon Island’s commercial center, this historic site represents first-generation Japanese immigration, settlement, agricultural development, commerce and traditional Japanese gardening. In 1994, the Mukai family’s house, gardens and commercial buildings were listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Cardinal recently worked with the Friends of Mukai and Artifacts Consulting to study the historic site and develop short and long-range planning options to share the Mukai’s amazing story. Plans include an interpreted historic park, with passive and active uses, combined with an on-site commercial business representing the site’s agricultural heritage.
